Heifer International
The first day of Advent brings the cow. This program is based on the old Chinese philosophy that if you give a hungry man a fish, he will eat for one day; but if you teach him how to fish, he will never go hungry again. A heifer (or any other animal) will help one family. Her offspring will spread and eventually a whole village will benefit. It is the gift that keeps on giving. In 2006 St. James' raised $1,330 - enough to buy two heifers and a llama.
