“The Vestry shall be agents and legal representatives of the Parish in all matters concerning its corporate property and the relation of the Parish to its Clergy”
-Canon 14, Section 2 of the Canons of the Episcopal Church
The specific role of the Vestry is not always easy to define. The first role of the Vestry is a fiduciary one: it is canonically responsible for the assets of the parish and for its business and fiscal affairs. But that is only one aspect of its responsibility. Ultimately, Vestry members, working together with the Rector, serve as trustees for the religious as well as the financial health, well-being and future of the parish.
